The Centre for Ibero-American Studies

The Centre for Ibero-American Studies (Kabinet Ibero-amerických studií, KIAS) is a joint academic project of two institutions of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Hradec Králové: the Department of Politics and the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences.

KIAS was established in 2006 in order to study political, social and historical aspects of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. KIAS focuses on teaching, research and publication activities, it provides forum for an exchange of findings and academic discussions, as well as it holds conferences and information meetings for general public.

In order to promote the results of its research and to contribute to scholarly debates on various issues related to Ibero-American area, KIAS has started to publish KIAS Papers. The first volume was published in 2006 and a second one is planned for 2007. KIAS Papers are published in English with abstracts in Spanish or Portuguese.

KIAS members plan to enhance their teaching of Latin America affairs in the near future. As the Department of Politics is currently preparing an MA programme in Politics, the specialization on the Latin America countries will be soon offered to MA students in Politics.
